Life Insurance
Lump sum payment if you were to pass away or are diagnosed with a terminal illness.
What is trauma insurance and why do you need it?
Trauma insurance helps keep you on track so you can live life to the full, no matter what life throws at you. It is designed to pay you a lump sum to manage the financial impact if you or one of your children were to face serious illness or injury, like taking care of medical treatment and rehabilitation costs, or simply allowing you and your family to focus on recovery instead of worrying about work.
Unfortunately, experiencing a trauma such as serious illness or injury at least once in your life is more common than you might think. New Zealanders are increasingly surviving illnesses that previously have been terminal.
AIA offers one of the most comprehensive trauma insurance ranges in New Zealand, giving you the choice of your level of cover to suit your budget. By combining our trauma products, you can create a personalised protection plan that meets your needs. Whether you’re looking for comprehensive cover, or a cost-effective solution for serious illnesses, our options work together to provide layered protection, so you're supported for a wide range of conditions.

How Critical Conditions and Severe Trauma insurance can work together:
Mary’s story
Mary holds both Critical Conditions and Severe Trauma insurance. She is diagnosed with breast cancer. Her claim is accepted and she receives a partial claim payment under the Carcinoma-in-situ benefit on her Critical Conditions policy.
Weeks later and following her specialist’s advice, Mary underwent a full mastectomy. This qualified her for an additional payment under Critical Conditions under the Carcinoma-in-situ radical surgery benefit, bringing her total payout to the full sum assured.
Later, her cancer progressed and metastasizes. When no further treatment is an option, Mary received a further full claim payment under the cancer definition under the Severe Trauma benefit, providing her with financial support during an extremely difficult time.

A few of these are advanced diabetes, cancer, dementia, heart attack, heart surgery, permanent loss of hearing, stroke, meningitis, chronic lung disease, HIV, severe burns, permanent blindness, severe illness or injury, etc.
Progressive Care cover allows you to make multiple claims, based on the severity of your illness or injury. You’ll be covered for medical conditions across five categories: Cancer, Heart & Arteries, Brain & Nerves, Loss of Function and other health events.
